Smokey Jacobs Regatta
12 April 2008
On a warm spring day punctuated by showers, heavy at times, Woodson entered a reduced number of boats. Rowing mostly adjusted lineups, your Woodson team continued its amazing performance.
At the Walter L. Mess and Polar Bear Regattas, Woodson achieved a total of eight First Place, one Second Place and two Third Place finishes, for a total of eleven boats placing from a total of fifteen entries.
At the Smokey Jacobs, Woodson achieved two First Place, two Second Place and a third in heat, increasing our totals to sixteen of twenty boats raced placing in the top three of their events.
The day began on a high note with the Men’s First Four pulling away in the First Men’s Four Heat Two advancing to Finals. This was followed by the combined First and Second Women’s Eight placing third, besting Forest Part and Mount Vernon. Unfortunately this was a two-to-finals heat and they did not advance.
In the Second Men’s Four Final the Second Men’s Four bested all for our first Final First Place. In the Light Men’s Four Woodson placed second by a bow ball, allowing McLean to best them in the sprint. In the Men’s First Four Final Woodson easily pulled away, rowing to our second Final First Place of the day. Lastly, in an exciting Freshmen Men’s Eight the Woodson freshmen placed second to Thomas Jefferson by a seat.
Given the circumstances of the day it was a very successful racing day.
We look forward to the return of the rest of the team from the band and chorus trip. We heard they had an absolutely great time!
